The SWBOCES Transportation Department has a fleet of 70 school vehicles with an average age of 6 years. This fleet is maintained by Automotive Service Excellence-certified mechanics. The New York State Department of Transportation inspects each vehicle twice a year, and the passing rate for our vehicles is exemplary, with all earning scores of 95 to 100 percent. All school buses are radio-equipped and maintain contact with the Transportation Office at all times. At SWBOCES, we set our own standards for the development of our employees, exceeding those set by the NYSED. Our bus drivers have an average of more than seven years of service. All drivers and monitors receive training mandated by the state Education Department and participate in a minimum of six hours of safety training a year. Many of our monitors are CPR and AED certified. Each year, our vehicles travel more than one million miles, transporting more than 600 students daily, including 220 with disabilities. Our mission is to provide safe, reliable, cost-efficient school transportation services for districts, and to operate at the highest standards within the industry.
